Meet Roger Whitley-Write-In Candidate

This is the second episode of three that I am putting out on the write-in candidates for Scottsville Town Council. Three seats are on Tuesday's ballot.

Welcome to the James Exchange. I am your host, Nancy Gill. It is Sunday, November 3rd and the Scottsville election for mayor and three councilors is a couple of days away. My conversation with Walter Townsend has been published. Next up is Roger Whitley and then Molly Angevine. David Becker and I were unable to schedule a conversation. I prerecord our conversations. There is a transcript you can follow, read, or browse with each podcast.

Roger Whitley

Whitley moved to Scottsville with his wife, Jennifer, about three years ago. They moved from Crozet, and haven’t looked back.

He came up with the campaign slogan, “Don’t Crozet our Scottsville.” He talked about his experience living in Crozet and how the development changed it. He understands the leverage a town has over an unincorporated area. Crozet is not a town. Like everyone running for either re-election or write-in, he wants to maintain the Scottsville’s characteristic of a small town.

Of all the candidates, he was the most emphatic about not raising the Scottsville real estate tax on residential and commercial properties. He thinks there are other avenues to explore where the town may be able to create additional revenue streams.

Whitley’s views on growth fall in line with everyone I have had a chance to interview. They all reference the need to grow businesses along with new residential construction.

Whitley would like to have your support on Tuesday, November 5.

The Ballot:

Next up for write-in candidates is Molly Angevine. Don’t forget to vote on November 5th.

And, as always, if you have a song, a story, an event, or an issue you would like to discuss, perhaps it is time for a conversation.
