We Are Scottsville!

The James River in Scottsville on January 1, 2023.

As we enter into a new year, how about we start looking at Scottsville a little differently.

  • First, while Charlottesville has an urban ring. Scottsville has a rural ring.

I do not believe anyone would debate the significance of the communities surrounding Scottsville on the town’s local economy.

  • Second, why is Scottsville continually compared to Columbia and Crozet?
    Neither are an incorporated town.
Columbia did not have a tenacious Mayor Thacker who did not give up unitil Scottsville was protected from floods.
Crozet sits in the geographic location of two major throughways: Route 250 and Interstate 64.
Scottsville’s location is Routes Six and Twenty. As I have heard it often said, “Geography is Destiny.”

We are Scottsville, the only incorporated town in the County of Albemarle.
We are not Columbia.
We are not Crozet.

Let us look at who we are, what we offer, and how to make our town with its rural ring sustainable.

The question is not apartments or industrial parks. The question at this time in Scottsville’s history, is the town financially stable and sustainable? Is there a vision for Scottsville for five, ten, twenty years from now?

We are Scottsville.
