Bird and Blenheim--Can't get enough

Council Special Meeting 2/10 at 7:00...Commissioners met on 2/7

Good Wednesday everyone! Welcome to the James Exchange Quick Take. I am your host, Nancy Gill.

We make mistakes, and I made one in my Sunday Quick Take. The Scottsville Town Council’s special meeting on the Bird and Blenheim special use permits is Thursday, February 10 at 7:00.

The Agenda

In addition to the two special use permits, Dr. Denise Bonds, director of the Blue Ridge Health District (formerly Thomas Jefferson Health District) will discuss how housing and urban planning are a significant issue pertaining to health outcomes. Town Council and staff have demonstrated their commitment to healthy and happy communities through their continued support of HEARR (Health Equity and Access in Rural Regions). I will have more on this at a later date.

In the Planning Commission meeting held this past Monday, the Commissioners recommended the special use permit for the GOCO property to Town Council. Council will now continue the same process with an additional public hearing. This has not been scheduled yet.

Commissioners also voted to hold two public hearings at their March meeting on 474 and 496 Valley Streets. The prospective buyer Carmel Greer, shared her vision with the Commissioners. She would like two Airb&b units at 474 one on the ground level and one on the second floor with a retail space in front of the building. 496 Valley will house another Airb&b unit. She is also in the process of purchasing 330 Valley Street. To learn about her vision, you can view the meeting recording on the Town’s YouTube page. Discussion starts about 1 hour 10 minutes in. In fact, the meeting had so many thoughts and ideas, you may want to listen to all of it.
