Greetings all to the James Exchange. I am Nancy Gill your host. It is Saturday January fourth. It is a New Year.
In today’s episode, I had a conversation with Marta Keane who has recently retired from the Jefferson Area Board for Aging or JABA. Marta joined JABA forces in 2012 as the Chief Financial Officer and was named Chief Executive Officer in 2013. I met her while serving as the Scottsville Senior Center director, and decided to catch up and have a conversation. We covered everything from Covid to microgreens to reinventing oneself as opposed to retiring. Listen to our conversation for some insight into the organization, the reasoning for combining the Scottsville and Esmont centers at Yancey Community Center, and future plans Marta has — some are getting back to what she hasn’t had time to do — piano and books! (This episode was pre-recorded and you can follow along with the transcript).
“Grace & Glorie” by Tom Ziegler.
Grace is a feisty illiterate 90-year-old who has checked herself out of the hospital and returned to her ramshackle cottage in the mountains of Virginia. Enter Gloria, a transplanted New Yorker with a Harvard MBA, now volunteering as a hospice caregiver. Which one do you think needs saving? At first, cultures and generations hilariously collide, but over time they realize they have more in common than they ever could have imagined. A celebration of the strength and resiliency of women at every age, Grace & Glorie is a poignant comedy about love, loss, and the search for meaning in all of our lives.

St. Thomas Aquinas Seminary Christmas Concert
If you missed the third annual Christmas Concert, you can watch it on YouTube. This presentation features the men studying for the priesthood. The concert is on the last Sunday of December each year. I recommend putting this on your calendar!
As always, if you have a story, a song, an event, or an issue you would like to discuss, perhaps it is time for a conversation.
Happy and Peaceful New Year!
